Mountain View High School sits on 40 acres of land in the central part of the neighborhood, while the El Monte Union High School District manages the public high school. The home of the Vikings is one of five high schools in the district. Approximately 1,350 students in ninth through twelfth grades attend Mountain View. The school publishes a comprehensive school accountability report each year so parents can see how the school is faring academically. Students have access to a district-wide college and career center to prepare for life after high school. Mountain View’s extensive facilities include several computer labs, a student-run bank, art studios and a multipurpose student union. Built in 2019 and named after a beloved teacher, the Bobby Salcedo Student Union is also a community center hosting music and theater performances year-round. In addition to typical high school subjects, Mountain View provides students access to a video production academy where students produce live streams of school events and create their own artistic work. The school’s award-winning Teacher Preparation Academy allows pupils to explore a teaching career. The program pairs Mountain View students with elementary school students for one-on-one instruction and tutoring.

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

My experience here at Mountain View has been exciting fustrating complex but overwhelmingly supportive with the teachers and staff creating a space to feel safe and heard. Yet also debated and treated as adults.

What I love about Mountain View High are the programs and classes that are available here. There are classes here for nursing, teaching, cooking, and performing arts. Mountain View listens to its student's opinions and makes changes when is needed. For example, we just establish a wellness center for our mental health.

I graduated in 1986 and was unfortunate to have Ms. Acosta as my counselor. Unfortunately for the Viking Ship, Ms. Acosta was promoted to the admin ranks and the rest of it is history. Our sports program became that much worse and academics suffered even more. That is what you get when you promote p...

I attended this high school a few years ago. Its not the greatest but if you become involved in the academic programs there is it is much more enjoyable! I was involved in the VISTA academy sophomore, Junior, and Senior year. If it wasn't for the teachers that were involved in the academy I wouldn't...

Honestly, my student attends this school and I hate it so much. When the economy is good, the school is good. When the economy is bad, the administration and the staff just doesn't care about their students as much as they do about money. The students don't reach their full potential. They do the mi...
