George C. Marshall High School is located near Interstate 495 and Va. 7 in Northern Virginia. Founded in 1962, the school has an academic, athletic and extracurricular program that stands up to the legacy of its namesake general and former secretary of state. Marshall High prides itself on a hands-on, project-based learning approach. Students from the Tysons Corner and Pimmit Hills areas can participate in an International Baccalaureate program and a STEM Academy. The language program has seven different tracks, including American Sign Language. The school also offers no-cost summer tutoring programs and wide-ranging technical programs, including a nursing program, culinary arts program and cutting-edge information technology. The Marshall High Statesmen teams are known for football and cross country and track and field. While their peers race across the finish line to add to the school's five state championships, the tennis and basketball teams are also forces to be reckoned with. The theater program is just as impressive, boasting six orchestras and bands.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

I had a great time at Marshall, especially through the IB Diploma and Cross Country program. If you are able to find an activity in each category (clubs, sports, academics, or a mix) you can be really successful - but a lot of work on your own is needed.

the best parts were the diversity of the school, the worst was the lack of enforcement of certain students

At Marshall I've had a great experience playing for the football team. I have also taking many difficult classes, and the teachers have been a great help in preparing me for college. Marshall is the highschool if you want to go to college.

Had to transfer. I got bullied both online and in person for a rumor that started within the school. I went to my counselor for support with this situation, and she told me to talk it out, I did, and the girl started another rumor that led to me being sexually harassed (physically) by guys in the ha...

During my time at the school, as an African American student, I have faced immense racism from students and from staff as well. Ranging from stereotypes to even the N-Word. Being that the school is around 6% black, if you are a black student I would likely avoid this school at all costs, because the...

The College Readiness rating is completely and egregiously wrong!!Marshall is an International Baccalaureate School. Its students obtain college credits through the IB program and do not take AP examinations. The rating should be based on IB partcipation not AP participation (of which there is none)...

GCM’s academics are above average of other schools in the area and do their best to have a well rounded curriculum but really as a former student the most important thing in learning is having a good teacher that you can relate to and that is able to provide proper assistance catered to you as an in...
