Founded in 1981, the Maria Montessori Center in Farmington Hills provides a private education to preschool through sixth grade students in Farmington Hills. In the words of educator and scientist, Maria Montessori, the Maria Montessori Center seeks to "enthuse" children to their "innermost core."
Tailoring its curriculum to meet the needs of each child, the Maria Montessori Center emphasizes the refinement of motor skills and coordination in its youngest learners. Primary-aged children engage with academic subjects through hands-on learning in science, history, geography and nature classes.
First through third grade students participate in small groups exploring more complex thinking patterns by asking questions. Fourth through sixth graders move from concrete to abstract comprehension of the world around them, developing independence through reading, introspection and an interest in fairness and social justice.
Students can enrich their time at the Maria Montessori Center participating in community service projects by joining the Junior Optimistic Group or sign up for band or music. Other afterschool opportunities include chess and spelling and geography bees.
Throughout their personal and academic journeys, students at the Maria Montessori Center are guided to grow by attentive teachers who work to nurture children's innate sense of curiosity and unlimited imaginations.
