Known as either Pierce Creative Arts Elementary or just Pierce Elementary, this pre-kindergarten through sixth-grade school is one of the top performing elementary schools in the city of Flint. This public school is relatively small, with 140 students and about 12 teachers and an average class size of about 12 students.
Pierce is a magnet school, drawing kids from surrounding neighborhoods including the East Village for its academics, smaller classes and its pre-kindergarten program. Teachers and students have fun with a wide variety of activities including a spirit week and a summer trip to the zoo, and they have even rewarded their top readers with crates of books.
In May of 2022, the Flint Board of Education announced potential plans to close Pierce Elementary and one other Flint Community School due to a budget deficit with the city. Over 30 individuals spoke up for Pierce Elementary and how pivotal the school is to the community. The school remains open as other ideas are pursued for closing the deficit and bringing more students to the school district.

You couldn't ask for a better staff than the people at Pierce. Most of them are very concerned about the student's welfare, and will go out of their way to help students succeed.
