Elmwood Elementary School is a neighborhood school conveniently located along Turney Road, which runs through the heart of Garfield Heights. Students here begin lifelong friendships in classrooms and on the playground. Adults, including parents, caregivers and local employers from the surrounding community, are invited to classes to read and share their experiences working in the field. These visits help students think about options for their futures and set themselves on their chosen paths.
Teachers and administrators structure their approach to address students’ academic, social and emotional growth. They create a variety of lessons to engage students with all kinds of learning styles and emphasize collaboration between peers. In addition to classroom learning, students can play outside daily on the playground. During recess, students release their energy and forge friendships they will carry throughout their school careers.
