As a member of the Great Hearts network of non-profit public charter schools, Archway Arete strives to bring the best of private school traditions into the public school setting. Through a focus on a classical liberal arts education, the academy enlightens more than 500 students in kindergarten through fifth grade in the greater Gilbert area. By fostering an environment where “students are shaped by stories, not screens,” Archway Arete strives to embody arete—the ancient Greek concept of excellence—in all of its students so that they not only learn but can grow into leaders who have good hearts and characters. In addition to core subjects, students learn to master French as their foreign language and explore art, music theory and performance as part of their cultural and creative enrichment. To further develop their social and motor skills, physical education is included the regular schedule with extracurricular basketball offered to help transition students into middle and high school athletics. Outside of class, students also explore a wide range of extracurricular passions including arts and crafts, chess, dance, football, running and yearbook, among others. Throughout the year, any student can shine in a number of academy events from festivals to student showcases where they can feel like a part of the greater community at Arete Prep.
