More than 1,400 students attend the school in grades 7 through 12th. Deer Valley’s mission is to “ create a safe and positive learning culture by empowering students with the essential knowledge and skills necessary to lead in their homes, careers and communities.” Its mascot is the Sky Hawk. The student-to-teacher ratio is far better than the state average at 9:1. According to state testing, 58% of students performed at or above the proficiency level in math and 51% scored at or above the proficiency level in reading. School-provided iPads enable students to complete assignments, explore, and improve their technology skills A Deer Valley program with increasing popularity is its dual-enrollment college credit option. The school also has a robust athletic and club program, offering a wide range of options to students with all types of interests and skills. Students falling behind in the classroom often turn to the school’s DVUSD (Diverse, Vigorous Uplifting, Success and Data) Pathway after-school program for assistance. The program helps accelerate students’ learning processes through small class sizes and student-centric learning.

The 80/20 grading rule where tests are worth 80% of the grade and coursework is worth 20% is not reflective of real life. Some of the best experiences I've had are with the AZ-802 AFJROTC unit that I have been apart of since my freshmen year where I have had some of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences I've had in my high school life. I've had many leadership opportunity's with the unit.

This high school is pretty basic. There is nothing special, everything is here, but not advanced. There is very little education when it comes to how college and the process of applying is like. There is also very little unique school events, it is the same every year.

My experience at Deer Valley was great. I was in the marching band all 4 years of going to school there. I loved the family that I have made there. But something that I wish to change is the amount of celebration the marching band receives compared to other curricular activities like football. The amount of times the band has gone to competitions and have made it in the highest competitions and don't get much recognition. It hurts us band kids when we get so high but no one but cheer gives us any type of recognition. The band aren't the kids that should be pushed to the side for any means cause we have done so much for the school spirit and there's not much support. But the overall school experience was good for myself I don't see myself graduating from another high school.

My son has come crying home all the time because of the overwhelming work they give. The bullying at this school is terrible. Put your kid in a different school while you still can.

We love Deer Valley. It is a smaller high school, and your student receives personalized support. The teachers care about the students. All you have to do is check your student’s canvas inbox and you will find supportive messages and helpful reminders. Athletics are fun and a great way for students...
