GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

I am a student at kecoughtan high school since 9th grade year I'm not graduating in June. This school had put my in the worsening state at points. I was assulted my 9th grade year and they didn't do anything about it I till it happened. Then they didn't call my mom right away and they didn't do what we have asked to do to. They looked at us like we were stupid.. The next few times after words they wouldn't do anything or explain anything to us if I was suspended again. The education is really bad some good teachers a lot of them are mean to the point I couldn't be in the class since I couldn't feel safe from the students because the teacher wouldn't do anything overall I was doing mostly Edgunitey the whole time and only reason I'm graduating is from them not the teachers. It was the worst time in my life and I'm happy I'm leaving I'm never going to look back beside those few amazing teachers who I will always keep in contact with. Other than that I could care less about it for good.

It is an amazing school, due to our area already not being the best, Kecoughtan High School makes a continuous effort to push forward success in students no matter the background or social class. With the brand new science wing built for just our High School alone, our academics being the highest out of all of the other schools in our city, and the community built by our school is just few of the many reasons why I love it. This is my experience.

Recently, I transferred to Kecoughtan High School from a Newport News School. I move schools almost every year and have trouble getting settled. Kecoughtan made my experience amazing and helped me get settled in fast.

There are flaws but that's just how it is for every school. It is clear that all of the students and teachers try in their own fields. However, I feel that the safety needs to be taken more seriously in the perspective of students toward other students. On the other hand there is not a lot more to s...

The return to in-person instruction this year was wonderful. The teachers were very empathetic to the students and eased the transition back. The counselors have done a wonderful job prepping my son for college and have helped us every step of the way. Extremely thankful for the support the staff an...
