GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

For me, the best parts of my high school experience have been the opportunities to participate in extracurriculars, such as choir and orchestra. I have also been very fortunate to learn from a group of wonderful and hardworking teachers. The worst parts of my time in high school have been the occasional lack of kindness from my peers.

I liked that Hickory offered so many courses and activities throughout all four years. There is definitely something for everyone. I feel very safe and that my voice is heard at Hickory. It has an overall comfortable environment and one where you can make an impact.

I spent all four years of high school at Hickory and I have to say, it is average at best. The academics were fulfilling and the theatre department was great but the area was less than ideal and the student body was able to get away with a lot of disrespect and hateful behavior. Some personnel were incredible, others did not provide much in the way of knowledge. Overall, Hickory is an okay place to go in comparison to the other schools in Merced County but it has its problems.

If your children don't already know children who go to Hickory, and have positive, working relationships with them, this is not the place for you. This school is extremely i...
