I've been at HKM (Halau Ku Mana Public Charter School) for basically my whole life. My mom was and still is a teacher at HKM for over 14 years. This school is like a second home for me. Since I was here as a little baby they instilled in me the cultural knowledge of my ancestors and those who walked the aina (lands) before me. They've helped me to gain connections with people I'll never forget. They've helped me to social network with many organizations, one of the biggest ones being Mana Maoli. Throughout all my years hear they helped me to understand and find who I really am through learning about my culture.

Halau Ku Mana Public Charter School wasn't just an ordinary. They teach value and the importance for our 'aina. The teachers help the students like no other school can. It may not be the biggest school, but this school has the biggest heart.

My experience in Halau Ku Mana was a memorable one mostly because I have experience so many things. If learning wasn't doing so well indoors, then we were taken outdoors to learn hands-on. This is where I learned the most. Hands-on learning really helped me to understand things clearly; how the earth works, what we need to to take better care of it, and how we can compare it to our lives.

Charter Schools in general are not for everyone. However, if it's the right fit, then your child will thrive. Such is the case with our child at Halau Ku Mana.
