Anderson Elementary School, a Houston Independent School District (ISD) campus, serves many of Westbury’s pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students. This roughly 630-student campus enrolls young scholars in a curriculum focusing on math, technology and reading; in fact, through Houston ISD’s Literacy by 3 program, Anderson aims to have each student reading and writing fluently by the end of the third grade. Extracurricular activities at Anderson Elementary include after school tutorials, cheerleading and University Interscholastic League (UIL). Through UIL, students get to hone their skills and compete in various subjects like creative writing, maps, public speaking, spelling and many more. Additionally, UIL competition at the district level is possible for students who want to up their game. Anderson is known for being a community-oriented, supportive campus and even received a Platinum Certified Family Friendly School designation, signifying the campus’ commitment to partnering with the community to propel students forward. Thanks to its location among some of Westbury’s tree-lined neighborhoods, Anderson Elementary is also home to one of the neighborhood’s SPARK parks. SPARK parks elevate existing school playgrounds while also opening them up to public access during non-school hours, which works perfectly at Anderson Elementary.
