Briarmeadow Charter School at 3601 Dunvale Road is home to about 600 Broncos in prekindergarten through eighth grade. It’s an International Baccalaureate School in the Houston Independent School District. Although students zoned anywhere in the district can attend Briarmeadow, parents or guardians must provide transportation. From prekindergarten through fifth grade, this standout school offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, also known as IB. Each IB student is guided to develop IB Learner Profile Attributes such as being open-minded, principled, inquisitive and caring, as the basis for Briarmeadow’s social-emotional learning. Kindergarten through fifth grade teachers loop with their classes for two years. Another Briarmeadow perk is that the school follows the research-based best practice of not assigning homework in the lower grades. In middle school, Briarmeadow scholars take a pre-Advanced Placement program that uses advanced technology immersion techniques and learning strategies. Eighth graders can graduate from Briarmeadow with algebra and Spanish high school credits. Virtually all Briarmeadow middle-schoolers take Algebra 1, compared to the average of about one-third of students across Texas. Overall, Briarmeadow students score well above state averages, reflecting this high Algebra 1 participation rate. Students in all grades learn through hands-on, inquiry-based instruction. Briarmeadow goes beyond state requirements to foster 21st-century skills such as creativity, innovation, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration.

I love the extracurricular opportunities in this school. I was able to learn more about computers and able to learn how a library is managed. I was also able to be a part of the soccer and volleyball team. There are other extracurricular opportunities such as music, art, year book, soccer, volleyball, baseball, and much more.

This school has a wonderful and unique approach to student learning. It is an IB world school, and we’ve loved how our child is thriving in that model. Also love the grade looping system.

The school website is lack support and needed information for parents. Using the app named Bloomz for communication between school and parents, teachers/ staffs post a lot there but not everyone will answer your question. This school may be good for early learning, but not really for middle school....

My experience is negligible in comparison to what it has been for my children. My children have been traumatized at this school. There are better schools within HISD.
