Although Houston Academy for International Studies is the only public high school in Midtown, it’s one of the best schools in the city. A magnet early college high school since 2006, Houston Academy shares the Houston Community College System's Central College campus. A National Blue Ribbon School and winner of several College Success awards for its role in propelling students to enroll and excel in college, Houston Academy educates almost 500 students. All students graduate in four years compared to the state average of 90%. The school’s other numbers stack up well, as almost all of Houston Academy's scholars pass state English and biology tests compared to only half of Texas students. About two-thirds of students take Advanced Placement classes outside of math and science compared to the Texas average of 22%. The stellar numbers, however, are just part of the Houston Academy story. Partnering with the school district, Houston Community College and the Asia Society, Houston Academy has built a world-class school that helps students reach for the stars. Students have traveled worldwide to countries including Egypt, China, Cambodia and Slovenia. Most seniors graduate with a full year of college credit, while many also graduate with their associate degree in hand.

Houston Academy for International Studies helped me grow as a student. They offer all the resources I need to accomplish my high school diploma. The school also allows me to get both High School Diploma and Associates Degree all before I graduate. The campus is also quite small with very few students.

This is a great small school with lots of opportunities for college credits, travel and internships. Students come out prepared for the world! The teachers, admin and staff are caring and kind and they want to see students succeed. The student body is diverse and they thrive in this small attentive...

It is a myth that HAIS is a great or tolerant school. The majority of students very disruptive and disrespectful in class. School staff does not have a handle on these kids. The administration in the front office is awful and constantly loses paperwork, notes and will not assist to resolve any probl...

Literally the worst school to ever go to. Parents write good reviews and yes its true its awesome that students get to graduate with their AA degree but it is probably one of the worst environments to be in. The office staff is HORRIBLE, they lose everything and tell you if you have any questions as...
