Part of a massive KIPP complex at 10711 Kipp Way St., KIPP SHINE Prep educates about 860 pre-kindergarten through fourth grade students. With a perfect 10/10 from GreatSchools and an A rating from the Texas Education Agency, this public, tuition-free charter school is a sought-after educational option. KIPP is an acronym for Knowledge is Power Program. The school’s second name, SHINE, is also an acronym that stands for the school’s core values and character strengths: Seek, Honor, Imagine, Never Give Up and Every Day. Whether SHINEsters are soaring or struggling, SHINE staff want them to know that they’re loved and respected. Teachers and leaders do all they can to help students flourish academically, socially and emotionally. Regardless of the individual subject area, all SHINE teachers approach their curriculum as if they’re reading teachers. Literacy development begins with the youngest SHINEsters in pre-kindergarten. Since there aren’t many tuition-free pre-kindergarten programs in Alief, that’s just one more reason to love KIPP SHINE. KIPP SHINE offered no extracurriculars or athletics in the past, but it’s opening up soccer and cheer to third and fourth grade students. In keeping with KIPP’s emphasis on parental involvement, parents are required to attend try-out meetings.

This school lost a great principle and since then it took a dive.Ont the top it has become a trainee school for other Kipp schools and many of its teachers leave for other Kipp schools after training so unfortunately it has lost it's character they way it grew for first five years.
