As the only public elementary school in the Museum District, MacGregor Elementary School is known for its school-wide magnet program in music and the fine arts. Beginning in prekindergarten and continuing through fifth grade, MacGregor’s young scholars engage in rigorous academic programming and enrichment activities focusing on the arts. MacGregor Elementary is part of the early history of the Museum District. The school first opened in 1922 as Southmore Elementary School, but the name was changed to MacGregor in 1930. As a music magnet school, MacGregor offers students the chance to learn a variety of instruments and focus their talent with specific classes in piano, strings, band and guitar. Students also participate in performances to develop their artistic skills and gain confidence. Another perk of a MacGregor education is the opportunity to enjoy the school's gardens and use them to learn about nature and nutrition. Through engaging academics, rigorous music study and extracurricular athletics, students at MacGregor Elementary School receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in the next step of their academic journey.

My daughter had attended MacGregor since she was in kinder. Since those years I noticed many changes to the school like staff changes and the removal of a pto to allow parents to raise money and support the school and the students. I personally never had any issues with the teachers through the year...

I would give MacGregor a strong B+. My daughter went here for Kindergarten, and is returning for first grade. I wasn’t really sure about this school at first because of the lack of high diversity numbers but I have been quite pleased with MacGregor. I think this school is very under rated. I hold a...
