Established in 1984, The Varnett Public School’s Southwest campus is a base for some of Westbury’s pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students. This open enrollment charter school offers Westbury pupils a learning option in addition to Houston Independent School District. Varnett prides itself on smaller class sizes and a well-rounded education including access to advanced curriculum, gifted and talented, specialized programming and special education. Literacy programming at Varnett includes Amplify Reading, Reading Horizons, Guided Reading and Literacy Pro. These educational techniques or programs help students build a foundation for the rest of their time at Varnett and beyond. Through Varnett’s ALPHA Academy (Advanced Learning Programs for High Achievers), students can take a special focus on their advanced math, English or language arts skills. The ALPHA Academy allows students an opportunity to enroll in an advanced curriculum, access mentoring opportunities and even have the chance to skip a grade level. Thanks the Aerospace S.T.E.A.M. Academy, which centers on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, Varnett students can engage in hands-on aerospace learning through a self-paced, project-oriented course of study. In recent years, Varnett has aimed to improve its ratings, taking on a district-wide plan aimed at boosting enrollment, student achievement and academic strength.

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

This school is ridiculous, it needs more resources for kids especially kids with special needs. Why wait until a child fails to try something new.
