Across the street from neighborhood gem Peggy Park, the Young Women's College Preparatory Academy is the Houston Independent School District’s only all-girls college preparatory school. Housed in a multistory brick building on Cleburne Street, this magnet school for sixth through 12th grade girls focuses on science, technology, engineering, and math, also known as STEM. A Texas-centered Young Women’s Preparation Network member, the Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy, or YWCPA, works in partnership with the Houston school district to give young women an academic and leadership edge for college and beyond. The YWCPA’s core values are leadership, college readiness, wellness and life skills. This large school boasts high graduation rates, and most students attend college. YWCPA’s test scores are above state averages, especially for English and writing. The school has earned many accolades for its success in students’ continuing education and overall academic excellence. Although YWCPA educates students through 12th grade, it doesn’t accept applications beyond 10th grade. Parents are encouraged to apply early if they want to enroll their daughters in one of Houston Independent School District’s premier magnet programs.

YWCPA has treated me fairly well. Though I didn't have many friends, the sisterhood throughout the school is not too bad. The school prepares both parents and students for how to go through and deal with college.

My experience at Young Women's College Preparatory Academy was a crucial time of development in my middle and high school years despite the amount of sleepless nights due to overwhelming amounts of homework. It has helped me prepare for college life than any other school I have seen in our district.

Young Women's has honestly been a great high school experience for me. Coming from somebody who is closed off and very quiet, this school has given me the opportunity to come out of my shell a little bit more. Not even including the wide variety of opportunities they have to offer, in terms of scholarships and or internship opportunities and more. If you're looking to get into a good college, this is the best place for you.

My daughter did good until high school. One of her core subject teachers overloaded her classes with quizzes, tests, and assignments on Fridays when students didn't have much time. Students had to rush to complete packet work in other classes. Other teachers didn't take kindly to this and considered...

Positives: The microsized junior high is above average. The team of teachers communicate with you and are willing to learn/share what helps your child to improve. My daughter felt safe and became confident in the all girl academy . Her 7th and 8th grade math teacher was the same. Mrs. Smith was a fi...

To be honest, I feel like I'm treated as a unit, a number in a factory of products. My experiences with the school has been great, however, there's only things that need to be improved... I feel as everyone is active but there's a piece missing.

I’ve had a great experience thus far. Teachers & administrators are open to feedback & making the necessary changes to help my student succeed. Success of every student is paramount to the teachers & all staff.
