Building future careers is what the Jack E. Singley Academy is all about. The public magnet high school offers six specialties for students to choose from: engineering, culinary arts and hospitality studies, health science, arts and communication, information technology and legal studies. Once students choose a track to pursue, they learn in classrooms that function as professional workplace settings. For example, the school’s full-service FireBird Café is run by its award-winning culinary and hospitality students. The school’s building features a Main Street with a three-story atrium that offers access to a food court and other career facilities, like medical and dental clinics, a municipal courtroom and a retail store. The school also includes a 500-seat performing arts center. At this school, you’ll never hear a traditional bell signaling the end of a class period. Instead, students are taught to manage their own time between classes. This helps students practice the personal responsibility and independence that will help them succeed in their chosen careers. The Jack E. Singley Academy opened in 2001 as The Academy of Irving ISD. It was renamed in 2009 to honor its retiring superintendent, Jack Erwin Singley. This highly rated high school offers admission through a non-merit-based selection process, and students can apply as they complete the last semester of their eighth grade education.

I met some pretty amazing teachers such as my stats teacher who helped me in other categories in math and made sure I was learning the subject, my chemistry teacher who sparked my love for science, and my art teachers who made me strive for perfection in my pieces. I have made lifelong friends and grew as a result of those connections. Not only that I am thankful that Jack E Singley Academy has given me a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of traveling to Japan.

Singley Academy is an academic focused school. I would like to see more spirit within the teachers and students when events happen afterschool and overall participation. Plus, would like to see more better options in the specialties of single since I have learned nothing over the past 4 years of school about CyberSecurity.

My experience at Singley these past three years has been okay. I enjoyed our events, but I wish we had more of them. I also wished we had a little more school spirit. Otherwise, my three years have had some ups and downs, but I've had fun with my friends and classmates.

This school focuses quite a bit on college readiness but fails to notice those in regular classes. Although better than the other schools in the isd it could be better. The best part of the school is that it gives an in depth experience for future jobs but it can limit the educational experience bei...

The Academy is hands down the best school I have every worked in. A lot of my positive feelings about this school are due to the principal, Mr. Saenz. This was my first year teaching in Irving ISD, and I am happily returning to The Academy for my second year in 2014-2015.
