President Barack Obama Community School, also known by the designation PS 34, is a public school in the Greenville neighborhood of New Jersey that serves over 400 students in prekindergarten through eighth grade. One of the school’s biggest attributes is its student-to-teacher ratio of 11-to-1, which allows for smaller than average class sizes and more individualized instruction to meet the needs of every student. The most important goal of the school is to prepare students for college and career readiness early on in their educational journeys, all while maintaining an atmosphere of discipline, respect and support. With the guidance and encouragement of the school's talented educators, students follow a comprehensive curriculum that extends beyond the classroom. Students at Barack Obama Elementary participate in several extracurricular activities and summer programs, including the Speranza Theatre Company Summer Camp and the school district’s SPARKS, STARS and CASPER programs. SPARKS is an initiative started by the Jersey City Public Schools district for students in kindergarten through eighth grade, which offers summer enrichment classes and activities in language arts, mathematics, social studies and STEM-based subjects. The STARS and CASPER programs offer before- and after-school childcare for students.

My son transferred to this school in late September and it has been a breath of fresh air! The staff is accessible and polite. They make sure the children experience life outside of the school with regular trips and programs. I almost lost faith in the public school system but so far, this school is...
