Joshua Tree Elementary encourages its students to follow the Owl way, and be responsible, respectful and ready at all times. Principal Veas sees to this personally, as she listens to her students and staff, stocking the library with suggestions from students and their teachers, to encourage fluency in literacy. Each Wednesday is dedicated for the entire school to read together in the halls these titles that they love. This isn’t the only regular communal activity in the school, each morning from 8:45 to 9:00 o’clock, breakfast is served to each and every student in their classrooms. With a 92% rate of disadvantaged students, the staff takes extra care for each child to have a chance to succeed. With fifteen full time teachers and roughly 312 students, ranging from kindergarten to sixth grade, the teacher-to-student ratio is 21 to 1, which is better than that of the district. Three years running, Joshua Tree Elementary has received the PBIS award which stands for Positive Behaviour Intervention and Support. This award a high honor and only seventeen schools in California receive it yearly. Advanced students are also paid special attention to in the GATE program for the gifted and talented students so that the entire spectrum of learning capabilities is fulfilled in this inclusive community that is always moving forward to support the future of the youth.

My son has special needs. It doesn’t seem like the school is interested in helping him achieve success. Instead they don’t want to deal with him.

I am new to the area, so far all my experiences have been great here. The staff and teachers which I have met all are quite nice. My daughter came from a private school and really enjoys the school here.
