Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy is a collection of three charter schools throughout Kenner and Metairie, Louisiana, which serve students from pre-K-12. Founded in 2013, the Academy is part of the larger Discovery Schools organization, which also runs facilities in Baton Rouge and Jefferson. These institutions rank among the best schools in the state, not just in the Greater New Orleans area. Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy is split into the Maine Campus, which serves pre-kindergarten through fourth grade, the Vintage Campus, which has fifth grade through eighth grade, and the Loyola Campus, which teaches ninth grade through 12. Together, the schools enroll over 2,000 students, and have achieved at least 81% proficiency in reading and mathematics according to state tests scores. Senior classes have a 97% graduation rate. In addition to a rigorous schedule of classes, the school offers dozens of athletic teams to join as well as other extracurricular activities. In middle school, students can choose from 10 different sports, while in high school there are more than a dozen options, including swimming, tennis, golf and football. Extracurriculars such as theater, student council, and the National Honor Society are just a few of the over two-dozen clubs offered.

Meeting the friends that I have now is considered to be one of the best things that happened to me at Kenner Discovery. So was making connections with brilliant teachers that will never be forgotten. One of the worst things that happened at Kenner Discovery was experiencing bomb threats from people outside the state.

At KD, I experienced a lot of unnecessary hostility with faculty and students. I am a 16 year old trans boy (afab) and not only were most of the teachers and staff constantly misgendering me, but a lot of the students were flat out refusing to use my prefered name and pronouns. I feel like I wouldn't have been so ostracised by my peers if I wasn't transgender. There were good parts about KD throughout my years here, a handful of teachers sort of took me under their wing and made sure I felt relatively safe and happy. But overall, my middle and high school experience at KD lead to the decline of my mental health.

Kenner Discovery is a very young school, the high school has only been running for a couple of years. Despite their recent beginnings the school has begun to spread its wings. The sports teams are getting more involvement and the school has overall begun to develop more culture. My time at this school has been a great experience at.

Most of the teachers and staff literally only care about the schools performance rather than actually improving their curriculum. Constantly putting the students in charge of the other students actions when in reality the staff and teachers should be doing that. Some of the honors teachers have refu...

The new principal is tyrannical not even the teachers like her. They are so extra about tiny things that don't matter much, like small uniform violations, and whether you wear a school brand jacket or not. Which is very unaccommodating to students that can't pay for their expensive sweatshirts and j...
