GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

The NCLA is a really good school for sports and education. The students and teachers are all very pleasant and generally there's no bullying or anything like that. The only two major problems here is that the school is not very diverse at all and the administration can be hard to work with. There also seems to be a sort of "inner circle" where the children of teachers or parents that give a lot of money to the school are more appreciated and get picked for more awards and things like that. The school is really big on athletics and volunteering in the community. The education is top tier. At NCLA it's actually cool to be smart and the students are really competitive. Like for example if you are on grade level in math you're considered to be one of "the dumb kids." No one makes fun of you for it but it's kind of an unspoken thing. Not very bad though because it shows how good the students are when it comes to education. Despite a couple things I've enjoyed NCLA and the people there.

This is a public charter school in central North Carolina. Although not very diverse it all depends on who apply to the lottery for the school to be selected. The staff is fun and has a heart for teaching. My experience since 8th grade has been very safe. They expect excellence and really try to work with the students to be well rounded. They take students on international trips during junior and senior year to see outside your community and expose you a different part of the world.

The NCLA is an advanced school that I feel has helped challenge me to become stronger in multiple subjects. The teachers and other students are supportive which creates a nurturing environment. Since the school is smaller, there are also more personalized assignments and teaching. However, the extra challenge can be overwhelming until you get used to it.

My child recently graduated from the school. The curriculum is challenging, but the results are incredible. My child is in her first year at Carolina and she insists it's easier than high school. Some of the kids around her are struggling, but she is thriving. There is no perfect school, but I canno...

I graduated from the NCLA recently and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Hard work and integrity are rewarded at this school. That makes a lot of kids mad because they are not used to having to put effort into their academics. That's what makes NCLA different from a public school. Students can build rela...

The NCLA is a wonderful school. The teachers are kind, but are willing to push your child and holds them to high standards. I was a student there a few years ago. I met my best friends, but also a wide variety of people. I entered college feeling very prepared for the level of higher education. I pl...

Four of my children attended the NCLA and all had a very positive experience. While it was academically challenging at times, I appreciated that they learned to struggle while I was around to coach them through it. They now say college work is easy!Families can be involved as much as they want to be...
