Founded in 1968 with the merger of Knoxville East and Austin High Schools, Austin-East Magnet High School (Austin-East) is a public Title I magnet high school operated by Knox County Schools. Committed to providing an outstanding education for more than 700 students from Park City and the surrounding East Knoxville communities, Austin-East supports a full array of academic, athletic, extracurricular, and performing arts programs. Offering a smaller than average class size as compared to other high schools in the area, with a 12-to-1 student-teacher ratio, students can enjoy more one-on-one learning opportunities. While graduation rates and test scores are somewhat lower than in other Knox County schools, the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program at Austin-East provides rigorous academics and tutoring to prepare motivated students for college readiness and success. More than 90% of Austin-East AVID seniors are accepted into four-year universities. In 1997, Austin-East was designated as Knox County’s only performing arts magnet high school. Students across Knox County attend Austin-East to benefit from its quality music, dance, audio production, advanced art, culinary arts, and theater programs. Home of the Roadrunners, more than 20 men’s and women’s teams comprise the Austin-East athletics department. Over the years, the roadrunners have won several championship titles in football and basketball. From academics to sports to arts, Austin-East focuses on equipping students to excel.

My experience at A-E was an up and down experience. During Freshman and the beginning of Sophomore year, it was the best time I had at AE. But every since Covid, everything went down hill.

I like the diversity of Austin East. Austin East is a small school giving it a family feel. The teachers are awesome and help you succeed in anyway possible. If I could change one thing, it would be the negative overshadow that is placed on the school due to being an inner city school.

Austin-East magnet high school has one of the best community feelings to it. We are here to learn. If there was actual good focus on us and care given to us many of my classmates will be better, but the county neglects us because of the narrative that we are a trash school. Could a trash school get...

Initially I did not want my son to attend, but now I am glad he did. Also the Project Grad staff does everything they can to make sure seniors apply and get sc...

Many have a "no care attitude." I have heard some p...
