Glassell Park Elementary School is a public school serving grades kindergarten through 5th. Approximately 350 students attend the school which is part of the S.T.E.A.M. magnet program. S.T.E.A.M. is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Glassell Park Elementary takes these five subjects and implements project based learning, a method that calls for the students to work for an extended time on specific questions or challenges. Class size is commensurate with schools focused on appropriate individual attention as the student to teacher ratio is 21:1. Glassell Park Elementary puts a strong emphasis on living sustainably, so it has integrated environmental literacy within its curriculum. The school is participating in a Los Angeles Unified District wide program to ensure kids have access to high speed internet service at home. Glassell Park Elementary was established in 1924, then updated in 1933 after a major earthquake. The unique architectural structure has been deemed as a contributing resource, and therefore is on the list of Registered Historic Places in the city of Los Angeles.
