Established in 1937 and named after Washington Irving, author of “Rip Van Winkle” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” Irving STEAM Magnet School is a fully accredited, public magnet school in the community of Atwater Village serving students in sixth through eighth grades. Located at 3010 Estara Avenue in Los Angeles, Irving STEAM Magnet School is a college prep, twin-elective academy featuring a core STEAM curriculum with classes in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Irving’s STEAM’s mission is to develop critical thinkers through self-directed inquiry by offering rigorous project-based learning in the arts and sciences. With a student population of approximately 760 students, the school offers robotics and proudly boasts an award-winning California State Championship team. In addition, the school sponsors an annual Robotics Club Race Challenge where students get the opportunity to compete in races with their own designed race cars. Irving Steam also provides dance classes featuring its students in an annual dance performance. This highly regarded institution has a wide variety of after school clubs and activities to engage every level of interest including a homework club, wrestling, a rock band club, improv classes, cooking and a "girls who code club," just to name a few.
