Barrett Traditional Middle School (BTMS) is a public middle school located on a historic campus in Crescent Hill. It serves sixth through eighth-grade students predominantly from the northeast region of Jefferson County. BTMS is located off Grinstead Road and serves approximately 630 students. The school ranks in the top 25% in reading and math on state standardized testing. Barrett offers more than 15 sports programs, including field hockey, basketball, cheerleading, and a dance team as well as other extra-curricular activities and clubs. Barrett Cares is a school-wide community support program that is designed to encourage students to broaden their understanding of community and learn empathy and compassion. The project has partnered with local groups like My Dog Eats First, Forgotten Louisville, and others. Barrett has a strong academic community focused on success for all students. BTMS considers itself a traditional school, however, it takes the best practices from both traditional and innovative educational methods. Barrett teachers, parents, and students overwhelmingly report being satisfied with the state of the school and the education it provides. Eighty-nine percent of all stakeholders recently surveyed reported being satisfied with the school. Additionally, 100% of teachers at BTMS have at least a master’s degree.

This is my second daughter to go through BTMS. Both were/are involved in extracurricular activities. It has been a positive experience for the most part. Teachers need to work on communication with parents in a timely fashion. I have contacted teachers through email who do not respond.
