GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

I have attended Plainedge High school for all 4 years of high school and in the district for 13 years of schooling. Overall the academics are good but in regents and pep classes there is less focus of education and more trying to keep the class in line. In the 4 years a lot of construction has been done and the noise has greatly effected the science and social studies classes. There is a cockroach problem. There are highs and lows with the teachers with 2 in the last year being fired for inappropriate conduct but many of the AP and college level teachers consistently go above and beyond for the students. The music and arts teachers provide stellar education and experience for the program.

The highlights of my experience have been the challenging courses that are offered as well as the welcoming teachers. One thing I would like to see change is the level of difficulty it is to make changes to class schedules

This school has a lot to offer- AP, honors, after school clubs, SAT prep... New website with plenty of helpful links. Students and parents are contacted on a regular basis through email and Powerschool. Well worth the taxes.

Plenty of after school activities if you want to participate. Robotic team placed 2nd in the county. Many clubs and good caring teachers. Parents need to get involved. Taxes are high- why? No business to help the tax burden.

Plainedge has a tax burden problem. You have to ask yourself if this high school is worth the premium you pay in school taxes for the Plainedge district. Regents test scores have been abysmal the past few years and perhaps it is not all about tests but Plainedge taxes are just as high as the best di...
