GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Melrose High school is not a bad school, if i had to rate it on a scale from 1 to 10 i would give it a solid 8. The teachers are truly influential and they care about us students. Classes are somewhat difficult but it honestly depends on what level you take.

The teachers of Melrose are amazing and well-educated. One of my past teachers even worked for Nasa at one point. Sadly the Melrose school district has a hard time keeping teachers during the teacher shortage as a friend of mine had the same teacher replaced three times last year. While administration claims that there is a zero tolerance policy for bullying i have seen first hand how the falseness of this claim has affected those around me. The curriculum is diverse with history classes such as holocaust and genocide studies as well as women's studies and sciences classes such as forensics. Many people in melrose are encouraged to take ap classes such as AP lang and APES while in their upperclassman years.

I overall think that Melrose High is a good school. Some of the teachers do not seem qualified, while others seem highly qualified. The disciplinary action taken is not great, but is reasonable alot of the time. The concerns sometime lie outside what I would see as true concerns.

This school is not academically challenging unless your child takes AP classes. Teachers are chronically absent and often do not leave any assignments for students to complete. These classes are called a "sub blocks" except that they do not have any substitute teachers, so the classes get cancelled...

Considering the amount of real estate taxes they charge in this one horse town, the school systems sucks. Chelsea has a better school system.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time at MHS. I learned a lot from my teachers, enjoyed the time I spend there, and have found success in life. Many of the comments reference the "windowless classrooms" which are true, but in recent years renovations have slowly been making the issue better. Melrose is...
