United Community Center Acosta Middle School is a public charter school located in Milwaukee’s metropolitan Walker’s Point neighborhood, just a short one-mile distance from downtown Milwaukee. Acosta Middle School welcomes students who are in sixth through eighth grades and places a strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and curriculum. Acosta Middle School is part of the United Community Center, a local social services organization on the south side of Milwaukee. The United Community Center runs Acosta Middle School on its campus through a partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. A newer school built in 2018, Acosta Middle School provides students an early introduction and real-life exposure to today’s high-tech skilled trades including construction, engineering, computer programming and coding, carpentry and electrical work. Students gain hands-on experience as part of their day-to-day learning and work in a stimulating, creative environment that features a variety of labs, woodshop rooms and a technology center.
