West End has been home to Eakin Elementary since 1936. The historic building it began in is now used for teacher training for Nashville Public Schools, while the pre-K through fourth grade school moved to a larger facility nearby that used to house Calvert School. The facility includes a library, gymnasium, art studio, music room, auditorium, cafeteria, two playgrounds and a sports field. It provides a wing dedicated to after-school care. Neighborhood parents praise Eakin for its friendly faculty and active community. As an International Baccalaureate World School with a diverse faculty and student body, its motto is Eakin gives you the world. The school offers natural opportunities for rich cultural interactions with students from 40 counties that speak 20 languages. The school supports full inclusion learning programs for deaf and hard of hearing students, as well as The Encore program for gifted and talented learners. The school placed in the top 20% of all schools in Tennessee for overall test scores in more recent years. Eakin is a gateway school for West End Middle School and Hillsboro High School, which are also International Baccalaureate World Schools.

Horrific administration. Untrained and only concerned with behavior. Administration knows very little about children with disabilities and causes so much trauma. There are no checks & balances and administration is not held accountable for their inappropriate choices & actions for neurotypical and n...

We have loved having our child at this school and feel it’s been a wonderful fit for him. We love the diversity of the student body and the wonderful tea. Principal Hartfelder is doing a great job.

The community(parents and community ) evolvement is Beautiful. The teachers are not able to accommodate African American Boys with energy. The teachers complain and blame these kind of children instead of making school fun for them and trying to find a way to make them excited about the learning pro...
