Benjamin Franklin High School was founded in the 1950s as a place where New Orleans’ exceptional students would be able to learn from its best educators. This was the first advanced placement school in the city, and it came about because of the famous “Space Race” between the United States and Russia. The school moved to its current location at 2001 Leon C. Simon Drive in 1990, and the building has since been renamed for Katherine C. Johnson, a mathematician and NASA scientist.
Benjamin Franklin High School is one of the highest achieving academic facilities in New Orleans. On state tests, the school has a 99% proficiency or higher in reading and 95% of students are proficient or better in math. The school prepares its students for college by making sure each student is clear on their goals and what universities are best to help achieve them. This approach seems to be working since 100% of their graduates go on to a four-year college and 54% are accepted to out-of-state universities.
In addition to academics, Benjamin Franklin offers fine arts courses like vocal music, band, drama and visual arts. For athletes, there are more than 20 competitive teams including volleyball, swimming, tennis and track and field. It also has an agreement with the University of New Orleans and the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts and offers dual-enrollment for both.

My experience at Benjamin Franklin has been full of many ups and downs. This school has provided me with the most amount of opportunities, than I think any other school in the city would have. The amount of community engagement, and connection that there tends to shock me. Ben Franklin is a community and one of the best ones that I have ever been a part of. Our dedication to not only academics but having a great time has taught me to balance my mental wellness as much as work.

Ben Franklin can definitely be a very stressful environment, but it all depends on how you deal with the work. Usually, if you do the work and try not to procrastinate, you can stay afloat pretty easily. I definitely have the most homework compared to my friends from other schools, but I still have free time and a life outside of school. There's a lot of different types of people, so there's definitely someone for anyone friendwise

Franklyn is the school you go to for academics! The clubs are cool and we have an amazing community but the academia is where we shine! All classes are honers or above. We have a lot of AP classes and manny research classes!! All in all Benjamin Franklin is a really good school! They prepare us for collage well and have a heavy focus on academics. The hard parts of school is the insane amount of work! It's at least one and a half hours of work a night probably more! You have to work hard to keep up and have to do outside study. I love Franklin but can see how it's doesn't work for some people!
