Village de l’Est Elementary belongs to the Einstein Charter School network, which it joined in 2007, and is located at 5100 Cannes Blvd. in the Village de l’Est neighborhood of New Orleans East. The school enrolls 470 students and has received an “A” grade for growth by the New Orleans School Board. Their mission is to inspire children to enjoy learning while teaching them to self-advocate in the classroom and beyond. Village de l’Est Elementary is a co-educational institution that is Americans with Disabilities Act compliant and offers an after-school care program. They also provide transportation to and from campus each day. Students are required to wear uniforms which cost between $20 and $29, and the school serves children from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. An open-enrollment institution, students are accepted from all over Orleans Parish. However, up to 25% of pupils come from one-half mile around the campus, and up to 42% come from ZIP codes 70126–70129. Einstein Charter Schools believes that collaboration is a source of strength and that we are all stronger together. That’s why you’ll often see such hashtags as #EinsteinSTRONG and #STRONGertogether on their social media posts. The idea of teamwork and community permeates everything this charter network does. The curriculum is very rigorous, aligned with Common Core, and includes theater, a computer lab, physical education, library, and healthy lifestyles catered lunch. I am pleased with the school.
