Located at 1651 N. Tonti St. in New Orleans’ 7th Ward, McDonogh 42 is one of seven campuses in the InspireNOLA Charter Schools network, and also one of the oldest. Built in the late 1800s, this red brick schoolhouse was effectively ruined by the floodwaters of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. But a decade later, its halls reopened after an extensive renovation which added 3,500 square feet to the building’s already-spacious 70,000. Part of the funding for the rebuild came from historic tax credits, so special care was taken to save the original windows. The result is a refurbished facility that can hold more than 600 students, with 20 core classrooms and science laboratories. McDonogh 42 teaches children from pre-kindergarten through grade 8. Students are encouraged to be purposeful, consistent, and intentional, as these values aid focus and discipline. The school also offers club sports that prioritize teamwork and strategy, such as basketball, cheerleading, baseball, and volleyball. Transportation to and from campus is available during the week as well (and is ADA-compliant). InspireNOLA and McDonogh 42 are using their fresh start to inspire students to excel in life by building their self-worth, integrity, and wisdom.

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
