St. Dominic School was founded in 1924 to meet the growing needs of the Lakeview neighborhood, an area which was beginning the transition from rural to urban. The school originally serviced grades one through four, and they had 133 students their first year of operation. Their first building was found on Harrison Avenue, but the increasingly popular area called for a larger school. Land was found on Memphis Street, and, in 1949, the building which still houses St. Dominic School was finished. Located at 6326 Memphis St. in New Orleans, St. Dominic School is now a staple of the Lakeview neighborhood. This much respected institution educates children from pre-kindergarten to grade seven and operates from the belief academic and personal excellence can be obtained by ongoing research, practical application of knowledge, and never-ending curiosity. They enroll over 700 students, are coeducational, and have a student-teacher ratio of 14 :1. The school offers sports clubs as well as ones of a more academic nature. These include basketball, cheerleading, volleyball, wrestling, and soccer, in addition to chess, robotics, STEM clubs, and Quiz Bowl. If a student is interested in the Arts, St. Dominic offers theater, band, choir, and several other choices from which the pupils can choose.

My son left St. Dominic after being accepted to a Catholic middle school in the city. I was astounded to see how far behind he was in comparison to other boys from other schools. There were three boys who made the move and all of them suffered in Math and English. Keep looking...
