I have been a staff member at HVA for three years. HVA is unique amongst charter schools because it really values student independence and voice. We don't just care about the end outcome- we care about getting there in a way that respects children and views families as full partners in their child's education. Families are really involved in the school; the administration listens a lot to family input. Teachers even send their own kids here. Highly recommend.

I have attended both the HVA high school and one of the HVA middle schools, and I can honestly say that this school has been a blessing to my life. There is no other school that will do as much for me as this school does. I feel safe in my school building, I know my teachers care for me and want to see my progress in each of my classes and want me to be successful. As for the administration, they are extremely helpful and caring. If there is ever an issue I know I can go to them for help and they will be one of the many people to help me.

This school is great. Minor issues that I have, however, are that the rules are constantly changing and that the staff changes annually.

HVA is one of the best Charter schools in East Harlem. All the teachers and staff members that I have encountered have been truly amazing to me. Students are pushed to be independent thinkers. When they make a mistake they are not immediately suspended and sent to detention.

It was great that HVA gave my daughter a laptop during virtual school. She loves art and dance class and her teacher always answers my calls and texts. Love HVA!
