GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

When teachers talk one on one with their students, the student may feel a bit awkward. But the staff in this high school makes this experience disappear. As it is a small school, the students can easily connect with their teacher. On the other hand, since the school is small, not a lot of opportunities are available. For example, there are less examples of the arts in this school. But this is understandable, given the school is for the math, science and engineering.

HSMSE is a small school that is really rewarding if you put in the time and effort. Of course, there are better and worse teachers, but overall, all of the teachers are willing to help out and give teaching their all.

HSMSE is small but offers a lot in its curriculum, diversity, and other opportunities. Everyone in this school works very hard and has high expectations for themselves in order to succeed. A 90% on a test, project, or final grade is considered standard here. It's a great school and I learned a lot from it.

My son just graduated from HSMSE. The best school experience he’s ever had. It’s a small, diverse, nurturing community where teachers care and the principal is one of the most caring and dedicated school leaders in NYC. Principal Dolcy has individual relationships with each student and teaches a cla...

This is a small school yet the staff seems to choose a only handful to guide. As a parent you are shut out, yet held accountable for the unorganized, irresponsible staff. It took 6 copies and 11 months for my child to receive credit for his 200+ community service hours. The uneducated staff could no...

High School for Math, Science and Engineering is not as good as I had hoped. The teachers, with the exception of a few good ones, lack compassion. Some act as if it is a bother to actually teach and would rather have the kids learn on their own. The principal doesn't appear to have much control over...

I am the parent of a freshman student. The teachers are all so dedicated and the students are the best. The principal, Crystal Bonds, is one of the most dedicated principals I have ever scene. She makes students her number one priority, and makes the atmosphere and environment a wonderful learning e...
