Independence High School is a public high school located in Hell’s Kitchen that is a transfer high school. A transfer high school is specifically designated for students who have fallen behind on their academic coursework or have previously dropped out of high school and wish to resume their studies. AP classes are available for students who demonstrate academic potential and wish to resume their AP coursework. Students are given a variety of learning methods and perspectives as they work towards their high school diploma in a collaborative setting. Independence High School is run in conjunction with the agency CAMDA which provides community resources to further the quality of life for residents of New York City. Admission to Independence High School is by application, and there are information sessions available every summer for students interested in learning more about the school. Independence High School offers students clubs, including boxing, yoga and photography. Students are also provided with the resources to find jobs and paid internships and take courses about money management alongside their academic coursework. The mission of Independence High School is to foster a safe and supportive environment so that students can complete their high school course work, further their critical thinking skills and pursue goals after graduation, whether college or a career path.

My favorite experience at this school was the Spanish class. The Teacher was very helpful and caring. I wouldn't choose this school again because the students doesn't take school serious and mess up opportunity for the kids who does care
