P.S. 333 Manhattan School for Children, or MSC as it is often called, is a public school on the Upper West Side serving kindergarten to eighth grade. With a student population of around 800 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of 14-to-one, MSC seeks to foster a relaxed, casual learning environment where faculty and students call each other by their first names. Founded in the early 1990s through a cooperative effort of parents, teachers and staff members of New York City’s Community School District 3, the school was an early adopter of the practice of integrating special needs students in all classrooms. Housed in an impressive limestone building, the former Joan of Arc Junior High School, MSC has added amenities such as a rooftop greenhouse that serves as a science lab. Students at all levels enjoy innovative approaches to coursework, with kindergartners, for example, watching duck eggs hatching in classroom incubators — a process displayed on webcam so it may be monitored at home. Visual arts, dance, drama and storytelling classes all have full-time teachers assigned to them, and students stage an annual musical with singing and dancing.

Elementary school is great. The school has an amazing community of parents who actively support the kids. There have been some changes since the prior principal resigned in 2023. The new principal is listening to concerns, but it's too early to assess any real changes. Quite a few teachers have left...

There was a period 1-2 years ago where some teachers left and there was difficulty filling the open positi...
