PS 9, The Sarah Anderson School is a public school teaching children in prekindergarten through fifth grade. Sarah “Peggy” Anderson, the original namesake, was a longtime, much-loved paraprofessional at the school. The school’s three-story building of white glazed brick displays touches of its 1965 era. The student population at the public school is about 518, with an average of one teacher for every 13 students. Enrichment classes include Spanish, music, and fifth-grade clubs. These clubs offer students opportunities to perform hands-on jobs in school-based activities such as web design, tech team and kindness ambassadors. Science experiments introduce children in kindergarten and first grade to subjects and procedures they will become more familiar with in succeeding grades. The music program incorporates musical theater, movement, language and math while integrating Common Core academic concepts into the musical learning process. After-school playground sports include kickball, baseball and soccer. The school also offers a fencing class for grades second to fifth, with personalized instruction by an expert.

This is a wonderful school with a great community - especially at the K level. Our son is in his second year at PS009 and loves the school. In fact the school is the only reason we are still living in NY. My son has made amazing friends and has learned so much not just about academics but also about...

Overall I think the school has been wonderful for my children. I would absolutely recommend it to other parents looking for a great elementary school on the upper west side.

We spent 2 years in this school. The first year was okay, nothing exceptional. The second year was a disaster. Also, this school emphases the fact that the great amount of donations allows them to hire an assistant for each class. Our assistant was barely ever here and when she was, she was totally...
