The Anderson School, also known as P.S. 334, aims to meet the needs of children with advanced intellectual potential. Started by a group of parents in 1987 as an elementary school program of four classes and some 80 students within the Upper West Side’s P.S. 9, it attained full school status in 2008. The next year, the school moved into quarters at the William J. O'Shea campus, which it shares with public elementary and middle schools. The Anderson School offers kindergarten through eighth grade to a student population of about 530, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 20-to-1. The accelerated, enriched curriculum features such programs as a Regents integrated algebra course for middle schoolers and a New York State Regents living environment course for eighth graders. This accelerated coursework allows students to enroll in Advanced Placement classes when they move on to high school. The Anderson School provides students with a dedicated computer lab as well as instruction in computer languages, word processing and databases. During elementary grades, various enrichment programs engage students in chess tournaments, the Continental Math League, WordMasters Challenges and the New York City spelling bee. For fifth graders, there is a law program, while middle school students may participate on a debate team, a math team and the science Olympiad.

We are a kindergarten family and absolutely love this school. It has exceeded our expectations from the curriculum, to communication, teachers, and parent involvement.

My child is a current student. I can't say enough about how much we love the school and how well my child has developed. I have to admit The Anderson School is not for everyone. If you child is self-driven and strives for the best, this is the best place.

Better than many other schools in NYC, but not my first pick. The "gifted and talented" aspect makes it undesirable. However, many of the staff are effective teachers, although intimidated by the entitled kids/parents.

My kid graduated from this school, this spring. My feelings about the place are very mixed and I'm not entirely sure that if I had it to do over again, I would send him there--which I did, for nine years, starting in kindergarten. The school works well for kids who are smart, good test takers and in...
