GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Nitro High school is very 50/50 with everything. It has always been a hit or miss with things like, staff, the environment, and even as simple as the food. I would rate my experience a 6/10, if i could change anything it would be the involvement of staff and most definitely the uncleanliness. I guess that starts with the structure of the school.

I had a good time during my schooling at Nitro High School. Classmates were easy to get along with and the teachers were always willing to lend a hand when needed. There were a decent amount of extracurricular activities, as well as clubs started and organized by students. Even parents would fundraise or interact with the school on a frequent basis. It was a very community oriented high school with a real interest in student engagement.

I recently switched schools due to the lack of the administrators care, I was getting severally bullied by a group and me and my mother have gone to the office about it several times and they never took action. there has been rats this year and in the ladies restroom there is mold on the ceiling. most of the teachers dont teach good. they give you several assignments with little to no explanation. half the cameras dont work. theres kids vaping and smoking weed in class and the teachers will sometimes even cover for students. teachers have also allowed students to skip in their class. none of the kids are getting structure. and not to mention the "jocks" get special treatment. its honestly weird how some of the female staff treat the boys. the breezeway is extremely unsafe. it has many holes in the roof. the bathrooms are always locked. i have seen many students just walk home right after lunch and not get caught. the few cameras that do work are never watched. the staff dont care.

This school is a very mediocre institution. The administration often seems lost and ignorant as to how to appropriately approach situations. The vice principal once told me that, in regard to the school's performance, "It doesn't matter what the kids think." NHS hardly prepares the student for colle...

I attended Nitro High School and I have to say it is definitely one of the best in the region. It offers a variety of AP and honors classes. There are also a large amount of extracurriculars to choose from such as band, show choir, guitar, ROTC, drama club, ski club, and many many more. The teachers...

One of the best schools in WV! The staff is wonderful and willing to work with students. They offer a lab in the morning where you can go ask for help with anything or makeup work. The extracurricular activities are second to none, there are tons of sports and if you are an arts lover Nitro offers a...
