J G Hening Elementary is a public school serving just over 800 students in Pre-Kindergarten through 5th in Chesterfield County, Virginia. This school is in a rapidly expanding area, and has undergone four additions since its opening in 1959. Hening has a vision to create an engaged community that focuses on respect, as well as a mission to help students succeed through modeling and inspiring students to respect one another and their passions for learning.
Since 1987, Hening has hosted the Center-Based Gifted program which is for students grades 3rd through 5th from twelve different feeder schools. The Center-Based Gifted program attempts to reach gifted learners through a variety of collaborative and engaging learning experiences. This program and services are designed to meet the unique academic needs and strengths, as well as socio-emotional needs, of each gifted learner.
Their school readiness program is preparing kindergarteners for school better than in comparison to the state average for school readiness programs. Hening knows Kindergarteners have so many exciting firsts entering the school year. Riding a school bus. Eating in a cafeteria. Checking out a library book. Enjoying time on the playground with peers. This program works on social-emotional development while also building academic skills that prepare them for higher grades.

They have been very supportive of my daughter. All the Faculty have all been pleasant and respectful. Every morning they play music and get the kids pumped to learn. They do great with kids that have learning disabilities.

This school is great my daughter goes to Henning Ms. Richardson 2nd grade teacher is the best, she keeps us informed on our child's progress offer suggestions and is very informational as far as resources. Thank you for hiring great teachers and role models like Ms. Richardson.
