Opened in 1921, Horace Mann Elementary School serves kindergarten through fifth grade students in Oak Park. The school takes its name from the 19th-century educator Horace Mann, former president of Antioch College and member of the House of Representatives.
Horace Mann Elementary enrolls 431-490 students that enjoy a class size of 17 and outperform average state math and literacy scores. 56% of Horace Mann's students test at or above proficiency levels in English and an incredible 69% of students test at or above required proficiency levels in math. GreatSchools gave Horace Mann Elementary a 10/10 rating for promoting academic progress and success among its student body.
Ranked the #263 Best Public Elementary School in Illinois by Niche in 2022, Horace Mann offers students a vibrant program of music, athletics and engagement.
The Mustangs compete in boys’ and girls’ basketball, softball and intramural sports and each summer the school hosts a music camp for its violin, woodwind, brass and percussion players. Horace Mann's annual talent show brings the entire school together.

We have had a great experience at Mann. The kids feel supported and there are some amazing teachers who do a great job at making learning fun and exciting. The staff takes feedback seriously and welcome communication as frequently as the parents are comfortable with.
