Oliver Wendell Holmes Elementary School serves children in kindergarten through eighth grade with an outstanding academic program that produces accomplished students and "lifelong learners." The school is named after Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., a Harvard-educated lawyer who served on the United States Supreme Court under President Theodore Roosevelt. O.W. Holmes enrolls 571 students who enjoy an average class size of 17 and a student-to-teacher ratio of 12-to-1. Students at O.W. Holmes return above average proficiency scores in math and reading. In 2022, Niche ranked Oliver Wendell Holmes the 3rd Best Elementary School in the Oak Park ESD 97 District. Children at Oliver Wendell Holmes can supplement their education with extracurricular activities like chess, chorus, the Student Leadership Council, Peace Circles, Student Ambassadors and the Yearbook Club. The school's annual science fair allows kids to build critical thinking skills, and Black History Month is celebrated at Oliver Wendell Holmes with a school-wide exhibition. Providing the students of Oak Park with a diverse curriculum that engages children intellectually, culturally and socially, Oliver Wendell Holmes Elementary School continues to inspire tomorrow's leaders.
