GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

We chose this school because it is a small project based learning school with a focus on STEM. The school is a great school option for students in Oakland and outside of Oakland. The teachers are passionate about teaching and I appreciate the curriculum that is offered. They give a lot of opportunity for extracurriculars and clubs. I appreciate how they offer the opportunity to learn with Peralta Colleges. This school is a gem and I highly recommend it for your family.

One of my favorite memories from junior year at my school was definitely prom. This was the first school-orchestrated event that almost all of my friends were able to attend; even Lebaron was able to attend even though he left the school the previous year. I haven't particularly liked school dances, let alone school events so I am very glad that I was able to attend and have a good time. PROM was very fun and even though I thought that it wasn't going to be that fun because of the sheer thought of being in a suit for 4 or more hours, it turned out to be very exciting. We were able to have food, take pictures, dance to music and of course, simply talk with each other. After the main event, a group of us were able to go to the beach and get some food after and that made it even better.

I like the flexibility a small school provides. I would like to see more school sanctioned events going on to help build school spirit.
