GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Admin liked to downplay the severity of violence and bullying that occurred during my time here. There is very much an attitude that racism and bigotry are just part of the culture in the city. Not much is done to educate the students about how bigotry affects their peers. The fights and intense violence are disturbing and are NOT normal. There are plenty of other schools that are not experiencing violence like this. Admin needs to realize that they have a crisis and support their teachers more. Some students are going to need help beyond what a general education program can offer. Anger management should be taught to students there. I witnessed so many students expressing their anger in unhealthy and toxic ways. I pray for the staff there.

If I could change two things about Freedom High School it would be the excessive fights and teachers who merely read off of power point slides. By the time I left Freedom there were daily fights and this made for a really disturbing learning environment. At least once and often twice in an academic year I would be assigned to a teacher that was likely burnt out from their job to the point where the standard of teaching could be comparable to watching videos on youtube. One thing I liked about Freedom was that the smaller departments often created a really welcoming space for me and others to seek guidance from in a setting that felt much more natural and welcoming.

Anyone's experience at Freedom High is what you make of it. The overall academic environment of the school is relaxed, but the resources and classes are there for a higher education are available to anyone willing to show up and take advantage of them.
