Ruth Barron Elementary opened in 2012 and serves pre-K through fifth grade students. The school’s namesake, Ruth Barron, was a beloved first grade teacher who taught for almost 40 years. Ruth Barron’s legacy lives on today in the school’s exemplary faculty. Teachers are committed to finding creative ways to make learning hands-on and engaging. As one of the few schools in the district to have a two-way, dual-language program, many students take classes in both Spanish and English. All students receive a strong foundation in language arts, math, science and social studies. The school also offers opportunities to take learning beyond the basics. Students can learn to grow vegetables in the school’s gardening club, sing in the choir or learn American Sign Language. Members of the school’s “Green Team” compost, collect recycling and organize other school-wide, eco-friendly initiatives. Students can also participate in activities such as the Austin Regional Science Fair, University Interscholastic League competitions and a fine arts showcase.

The school is in its first year, but the staff, faculty, and administration have done a wonderful job. Barron is the best school my two children have ever attended. The expectations set by the principal are high for students, parents, and teachers.
