Opened in 2017 as a public charter school, BASIS Phoenix South Primary serves more than 400 students in kindergarten through sixth grade in the South Mountain area of Phoenix. With a mission of providing a world-class education where students can dream big, the school adopts a rigorous approach to learning. And as a result, BASIS often ranks in the top 20% of elementary schools in Arizona, with reading and math test scores well above the state average. The school’s core curriculum includes language and literacy, math, civics, history, science, physical education, and martial arts. Students can also explore deeper interests and learning with enrichment courses in engineering, technology, music, visual and performing arts, and even Mandarin. As a unique aspect of the learning approach, BASIS also integrates a Connections course, which was inspired in part by the Apollo 13 astronauts’ ability to persevere in life-threatening situations by relying on problem-solving skills. In Connections, students are presented with challenges that require creative solutions and deep mastery of subjects, developing richer interpersonal skills and comprehension through the process. BASIS also participates in the National School Lunch Program and follows a local wellness policy to help all of its students be healthy in mind and body.

My child is very happy here, the teachers are very caring, and I like that she has a group of subject teachers.

If I could give this school zero stars, I would. Everyone told me that BASIS had the best curriculum, so I registered my son for kindergarten eight months in advance and was thrilled when he was accepted. However, my excitement quickly turned into disappointment. The school was a disaster—completely...

I send my daughter to this school because despite difficulties with teacher turnover, she is learning above and beyond what she would in any other school. There have been some great teachers and I imagine the school will only continue to improve.

this basis school's location is pretty much living on past glory, they have not been able to keep up with the standard that they started with, teachers are rude and yell at students up to their head of school, they only have really few good teachers left.so so unfortunate
