As an alternative to large public schools, Phoenix International Academy is a free public charter school committed to “empowering students to thrive in a diverse, interdependent world.” In a setting where everyone gets to know each other’s names, the school serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade in the South Mountain area. Here, the faculty believe that making a global impact begins by establishing strong community roots. Children are taught within learning communities of about 50 students each served by three dedicated educators. Personalized learning is at the center of teaching approach at the academy, and students thrive through project-based lessons that integrate public speaking to help them grow both academically and socially. Among the curriculum highlights, the academy follows Singapore Math and Teach to One Math programs and offers daily electives where students can explore their own interests. Additionally, an EduCurious program helps students learn with hands-on experiences to prepare them for the future in a range of subject areas. As for some of the daily particulars, breakfast and lunch are provided to students, as well free transportation within a specified location. Each student receives a Chromebook that they can keep to make sure everyone has access to technology from the get-go.

My child hated going to school until they came to PIA. They truly meet their needs in every way - listening to student and parent feedback in all areas. I'm grateful I found this school.
