Foster Elementary School, the fifth elementary school building built in Mt. Lebanon, opened in 1941 with fewer than 100 students. Two decades later, neighborhood growth had increased enrollment to almost 500 students in grades K-6. In 1966, a large addition to the school brought Foster School to its current size. Foster was renovated in 2003 and now serves over 270 students in grades K-5. School and community partnerships are a hallmark of Foster, exemplified by the number of lunchtime clubs available to students staffed by parents and community volunteers, the annual Foster Family Picnic and Read-A-Thon as well as the countless program and activities that are provided by the school’s PTA. At Foster Elementary School the students and staff live and learn by their motto, “We are kind, courteous and respectful!” https://foster.mtlsd.org/

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Principal Ramsey is an excellent educator and leader. My two children with learning differences excelled with the support provided here, going from having reading difficulties to testing in the 90th percentile. Mrs. Phillips is incredible as well.Unfortunately all that support disappears when you ge...

We moved to the neighborhood for the school and have never been disappointed. The principal is especially fantastic. His competency trickles down to the teachers and staff. Great little school.

The teaching staff will need courses on behavioral management. Foster was built on excellence and the younger teachers entering this school need to keep those standards high.
